Organic Food Gardening Workshop: How to Build & Plant a Vegetable Garden in a Small Space – This hands-on, backyard workshop will give you the confidence and knowledge to start your own organic vegetable garden. You will learn garden planning, soil preparation techniques, composting, planting, watering and more. We will install a small vegetable garden during this workshop.

From Container Vegetables to Perennial Edibles: How to Grow Food in Small Spaces – A workshop offered as part of Trowel and Error, Mayfield Park’s annual gardening symposium.

Wild Edible Plant Walk -  Come learn about wild edibles in our area. During the walk, you will learn how to identify, harvest and prepare some of the most delicious and nutritious wild foods Central Texas has to offer. We will also talk about how to integrate some of the wild edibles into your own yard. Amy has been eating foods from the wilds of Texas since she was a kid. She looks forward to sharing some of her experiences and knowledge with you!

Kitchen Garden Basics – This hands-on, backyard workshop is designed for beginners and will give you the confidence and knowledge to start your own organic vegetable garden this fall. You will learn kitchen garden economics, garden planning, soil preparation techniques, composting, planting and watering.

Introduction to Biointensive Food Gardening with Green Corn ProjectThis hands-on class teaches the basics of biointensive gardening, an organic gardening method that builds the soil and produces more vegetables in a small area.

Organic Food Garden Management – Have you ever wondered how to fertilize your plants and soil during the growing season? Would you like to learn how to incorporate cover crops, succession planting and crop rotation into your garden plan? And what about all those pests and diseases that creep into your garden mid-season? In this workshop, we’ll cover organic pest and disease control, soil and plant health throughout the growing season, and other topics relevant to the experienced gardeners. You should have at least one growing season under your belt before taking this class.

A Midsummer Garden’s Dream – This workshop will cover garden maintenance and management in the summer. We’ll dream of how it might look in the fall (and discuss how to get there), but we’ll actually deal with the reality of summer vegetable gardens in Central Texas – pests, heat, disease. We will discuss organic fertilization, pests & pest control options, cover crops & soil maintenance in the heat, and more. This workshop will be taught in Amy’s backyard garden and is designed for people that have at least one season of food gardening experience.

Growing Food in Containers – This workshop will take place in a backyard garden where over 100 square feet of food is grown in a variety of unique, hand-made and inexpensive containers! You will learn the ins and outs of growing organic food in pots and other containers. Workshop topics will include selecting appropriate containers, using and mixing potting soils & composts, good container varieties, watering, growing throughout the seasons and more.
